Product Details

A beautiful early example of the highly collectableOmega reference166.077, aka the OmegaPloprof.

Put simply theOmegaPloprof is an iconic dive watch. Born from the need for reliable "ultra water-resistant" dive watches, theOmegaPloprof is consideredby some to be the first watch designed specifically for this purpose.Developed in collaboration with COMEX the two standout features of the Ploprof areits bezel lock (released by pressing the red button) and its unique crown locking mechanism (designed to protect the watch from knocks and snagging). As a side note, it's interesting to know that at the time the OmegaPloprof was twice the price of the Rolex Submariner!

Hailing from circa 1971, this example of the OmegaPloprof received a full overhaul from Omega during 2011 where it was fitted with a service dial and handset, both of which are in mint condition. The original "sandwich" dial and original handset were both retained and will be included in the sale. The original Mark 1 case is in excellent condition with the graining still clearly visible. Thebi-directional bezelis also original and in spectacular condition, working flawlessly when the red but is pressed. The fully serviced calibre 1002 automatic movement (serviced by Omega in 2011 and again by us in 2019) is pristine and working perfectly. The later shark mesh bracelet was correct for the reference although would have been added later as this was only offered as an option from circa 1975. It also comes with the optional 1-inch long extension.

Rarer by the day and marking an importantpoint in the development of the dive watch, not to mention a passionate and growing following, the OmegaPloprofis sure to see significant price growth in the coming years. More importantly we think its simply a fantastic watch that stands out in a world of look-a-like dive watches!
