An exceptionally well-preserved example of the Omega Speedmaster 2998. This particular watch is an example of the sixth case reference known as the Omega Speedmaster 2998-6from circa 1962-63.

Produced between 1959 1963 the Omega Speedmaster 2998 is a favourite among collectors. Taking over from the Speedmaster reference CK 2915, the 2998 was offered in eight case references, known as 2998-1 through to 2998-6 and then the 2998-61 and 2998-62.

The 2998 was not only the first Speedmaster to come exclusively with a black bezel but also the first Speedmaster in space having been worn as the personal watch of astronaut Wally Schirra on the Sigma 7 mission of the Mercury program in 1962.

Things to look out for on the Reference 2998-6 are a straight lugged, crown-guard-less symmetrical case with a double step case back, alpha hands, stick sub-dial hands, stepped dial with applied Omega logo, circular O in Omega, long markers in the minute sub-dial, dot over 90 (DO90) bezel and asymmetrical clutch bridge on the calibre 321 movement.
