The Rolex Day-Date is one of the most iconic timepieces in the world. First released in 1956, the Day-Date quickly rose to prominence thanks to its elegant design and its status as the first wristwatch to offer both a day and date display.

Since its inception the Day-Date has only ever been made using precious metals such as gold or platinum no steel versions have ever been produced. This gives it a luxurious feel that's synonymous with the Rolex name.

The reference 18038 is a five-digit reference that took over from the ref. 1803. It was released in 1977 and featured an all-new movement with a higher frequency and Quickset function. It was in production for just over a decade before it was discontinued in 1988, making it one of the longest-running references in Day-Date history.

The model number "18038" contains some interesting information about this particular watch. Firstly, we can see that it's from the fourth generation of Day-Dates "180XX", in fact it was the first of the fourth generation Day-Dates released.
